Went to the JD dealer to get prices on 4300 2wd w/ std trans (collar shift) and he offered a new?98/99 (not sure) 1070 w/300 hours on it for $13,750.What does everybody recommend? He's offering the same warranty.4300 (27pto HP)2wd, turf tires, std trans, at $13,240or1070 (35pto hp) 2wd, turf tires, 9x3 std trans, 300 hours at $13,750I don't know if the benefits of the new ones outweigh the old.I'm using the tractor for landscaping, discing, box blading 3 acres transitioning to primarily mowing with other stuff once in a while.Thanks.RK.

That sounds pretty reasonable for a 1070 but for what you doing you really should consider the 4wd I only have a 770 but the 4wd makes all the diff when whewls slip. ....

Buy the 1070! I just bought one and have 12 hours on it. It is 2wd with ag tires.Mostly I cut grass, six acres with a six foot Big Bee finish mower, it does a fine job.It is a very well built tractor. Note that the trans is syncronized (can shift on the go)which is a very nice feature, not found on the collar shift 4300. I love it.Buy the way I paid $14,100 without tax.James ....

The 4300 you are looking at is set up more like the older tractors. The 1070 is the result of a long evolution of this design....which was good in the firstplace. The 4300 is the first and unknown in a new design group. I would go for the 1070....unless you are after a hydrostat, why pass on theproven and heavier duty design? It sounds to me like the dealer is trying to doyou a favor. Roger L. ....
